India is a vast country with over 2500 workers commended from different assemblies. It is almost impossible to keep track of every worker and get to know them in a personal way. Factors like the geographical situation, cultural backgrounds of different ethnic groups a, economical and educational inequality all can be sighted as valued reasons for it. This has made many committed workers to go unnoticed and deprived of much needed spiritual and financial fellowship. Operation Barnabas is concentrating on finding out these God?s servants and introducing them to the believers. For this we have taken much pain to go and visit them in their area of work and right in their dwelling places. Sometimes it takes climbing mountains that are as high as 3000 feet traveling through rugged roads fields and waters. But our labor was not in vain in the lord and had seen much good result. The workers are introduced through our magazine, "Insight India."
Though we do not provide any regular finance assistance to the workers we do have programs to help them with special needs such as Medical, education of children and family support. Our Medical assistance plan for commended worker's family provides coverage of Rs. 200000 for a family in a period of one year.
This great and vital need is seldom understood and considered by most believers in India. It is one part of the Lord's work in India pushed aside as it involves a great amount of money. The Lord has enabled us to help in this area also. We purchase and register property in the name of Operation Barnabas and construct buildings for assembly halls according to the availability of funds. More than fifty assembly halls (meeting places) have been fully or partially supported by Operation Barnabas in the past though all are not registered with us. We only started registering the property because of the new FCRA regulations effecting from May 2011.
The Lord has enabled us to respond to some of the calamities the nation has faced. The Tsunami in 2006, Flood in Andhra in 2009, The Khandhamahal riot and killing of Christians in Orissa in the year of 2010. We are also involved in rural development and agricultural projects. .
"Insight India" is our news letter and is published every two months. It is primarily aimed at introducing unknown workers to the body of believers for prayer and support and is mailed to all who request (hard copy or electronic).
Assembly worker's "Prayer Handbook" (directory) is published and is being renewed every three years.
"Basic Theology" by Charles Ryrie in Hindi, "The Ryrie study Bible" in Hindi, "One day at a time" by William MacDonald in Hindi are our major publications together with several books in Malayalam and English. At present translation of "Believer's Bible Commentary" by William MacDonald is going on and will be published soon. The Translation work in to Hindi language is done by "Project Ezra" team under the leadership of Br. Atulya P. Masih.
We conduct workshops for those who are in the field to impart practical knowledge in many areas such as Law of the land, Medical awareness, Family relationship, interpersonal relationship, stress management, communicational skills and also doctrinal issues.
